FAQ List:
SurfMyDevice App getting started
 Webserver
Summary of webserver questions:
  • 1. How does the webserver?
Atfer starting app it will automatically open a webserver listing on port 80. When a webbrowser sends page requests the server will answer them.

  • 2. Why can't I connect to webinterface?
    This could have several reasons:

    a) The webserver could not be started. (Maybe because some other app uses the port 80, like webcam apps do.)

    b) The app is not running in the foreground. When app is send to background (because you change to another app) all sockets will be closed because of security reasons and to increase the standby time of your device. When apps comes to foregound again the server will be restarted.

  • 3. Why is loading photo overview first time slow?
When a photo/photo-list is loaded first time the app creates and stores a thumbnail (miniaturized photo). This thumbnails are used to build the photo overviews. This takes some time, but when it will be loaded again it's much faster because thumbnail can be taken out of storage.

 Data access
Summary of data access questions:
  • 1. How works data access and protection?
By default all data is protected so a small red "Stop sign" is shown and the switch is off.
To change access use the siwtches. When access is changed the value will be stored in app settings automatically. So when the app is started again there's no need to set it again.

Data access can be configured for
    • all Photos & Snapshots (the folder where camera photos stored in)
    • all Picture groups (all your photo albums) and
    • Contact information (name, first name, birthday, picture, address list, phone list and email list)
    separately.

Find other people using app in your network
Summary of Search questions:
  • 1. How does "Search"?
App sends so called "UDP broadcast messages" to Port 8003 into your local network. When a device receives this message it sends an answer with it's "Name", "IP address" and "webserver port". This answers are listed in a table and used to connect the device with a webbroswer.
